Kabaka keeps subjects waiting

THANKS: The Kabaka acknowledges the greetings of cheering Kiboga residents on Friday

By Moses Nsubuga
THOUSANDS of people who had gathered at Kiboga Saza grounds from 8:00am to welcome the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi, were disappointed when he turned up at 8:00pm after most of them had left.
The Kabaka arrived late because he was touring elsewhere in the district. The huge crowd, some of whom had trekked very long distances, were forced to abandon the function after sitting in the scorching sun for several hours.
This prompted Buganda’s Minister for Bulungi Bwansi and Women Affairs, Appolonia Lugemwa, to blame the Ssingo County organising committee for poor arrangements.
“Why do you embarrass us to this extent? Don’t invite the Kabaka next time if you haven’t arranged your function well,” Lugemwa said.
Crestfallen crowds could be seen walking away while rebuking the organisers for wasting their time.
However, the Kabaka eventually addressed a rally where he made a rare public apology for keeping his subjects waiting that long.
Mutebi asked parents to educate their children as the only way to improve the quality of life in the kingdom.
He expressed concern over the poor weather conditions his Kiboga subjects are experiencing. The Kabaka advised Ugandans to engage in income-generating activities to improve their lives.
Mutebi hailed the Government for supporting the Buganda kingdom’s programmes aimed at eradicating poverty.
The State Minister for Defence, Ruth Nankabirwa, the chairman Uganda Investment Authority, Dr. William Kalema and Buganda ministers Arthur Bagunywa and Kabuza Mukasa were present.
