'Pray for replacement of corrupt officials'
Moses Mulondo
THE ethics minister, James Nsaba Buturo, has asked Christians to pray for the replacement of corrupt government officials with righteous ones.
“This nation would not be begging for aid if our resources were not being abused,” Buturo argued.
He made the remarks last Sunday at a retreat for Workplace Fellowships Network Uganda at the Parliament during which he revealed that western countries were threatening to withdraw aid if the current anti-homosexuality Bill was not revoked.
“If I told you how many foreign diplomats keep coming to me over the Bill, you would be shocked. But I keep telling them that the integrity of our country and our values are more important than their aid,” Buturo said.
“We shall not allow those people from the western world to define our identity and destiny,” he added.
Brig. Charles Angina prayed that God would guide the President to select righteous individuals for the public offices as a way of fighting corruption
At the same occasion, the First Lady, who is also the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Janet Museveni, appealed to Christians to stop focusing on selfish interests if they are to transform the nation.
“The most important thing is for us at reach to a point where our focus is no longer on ourselves but on God and his purposes,” she said.
The theme of the retreat was “…And who knows that you have come to royal position for such a time as this”.
The chairperson of State House fellowship, Faith Katana, urged Christians to always speak out against evil deeds.
“The time for rejoicing is over. We cannot afford to be at the dinning tables eating when the house is on fire. This spiritual movement is not a religious thing nor is it political, it is about averting the doom that would befall our nation,” Katana argued.
