By Norman Katende

SUPER GRAND PRIX
800m results
1. W. Bungei (Ken) 1:44.14
2. A. Laalou (Mar) 1:44.87
3. Chepkirwok (Ug) 1:45.14

ABRAHAM Chepkirwok clocked one minute 45.14 seconds to finish third in the IAAF Super Grand Prix in Qatar on Friday.

The 17-year-old Ugandan, a bronze medallist at the World Junior 800m event last year, fell to renowned Kenyan Wilson Bungei and Moroccan Lalou Amine, who dominated the 800m race from the start.

His time was the second fastest by a Ugandan over the distance and was 0.19seconds short of the national record of 1:44.55 set by Julius Acon in Fairfax in 1996.

“He is improving fast. After two races, we are optimistic of seeing a new national record,” said his country manager Godfrey Nuwagaba.
