Sebbale beats incumbent Musoke for UCA chair

Sebbale was smiling all the way

By Norman Katende

DR. KATO Sebbaale was yesterday elected the new president of the Uganda Cricket Association at a general assembly at Lugogo cricket oval.

The Case Clinic proprietor and lecturer at Makerere University department of surgery, beat incumbent Kibuuka Musoke 9-7 in the explosive assembly. It took the intervention of National Council of Sports representative Timothy Ssemakula to cool tempers.

The assembly had spent over an hour debating the eligibility of Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs (JACC) to participate in the elections. The club had been suspended for non-payement but they produced a receipt indicating that they had cleared their dues. Kibuuka insisted that they should be locked out but the issue was put to vote which went 39-2 in favour of JACC.

“Thanks for the support and confidence you have given to me and my team. Cricket is a friendly game and we do not need tricks and cocoons to run it,” said Sebbaale.

Mukesh Shukla and Godfrey Zaribwende were elected vice chairman and treasurer respectively, while Enock Barumba beat Fred Mpanga 8-7 to the post of secretary. Davis Turinawe is the organising secretary.
