President Joe Biden He confirmed that he intended to Visit the border between the United States and Mexico, as well as giving a speech on immigration security.

The Democratic leader has been constantly criticized by Republicans for not traveling to those limits in the first two years of his presidency.

Biden did not specify the date of that visit. Next Monday he will be in Mexico for a summit with the Mexican and Canadian presidents.

The immigration issue is particularly sensitive for the White House, which is currently working on a sustainable strategy that would allow it to control arrivals at the US border with Mexico, which is 3,000 km long.

Biden’s immigration policy

So far, the Biden administration’s immigration policy has largely relied on a measure implemented by former Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021), which was implemented at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and severely restricts entry to the territory citing health problems.

Known as “Title 42,” this legal instrument has been the subject of many court battles. The Supreme Court decided to maintain it on December 27, pending a substantive decision for the next northern spring.

And the immigration crisis on the southern border is one of the favorite topics of the Republican opposition, which criticizes Biden for being blind to the matter and the president, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris, for being there.

Human rights activists criticize the validity of this measure, which allows, among other things, the immediate expulsion of migrants without recourse to the law.

Many US states are warning of a strong influx of immigrants once Title 42 is lifted, as illegal arrivals at Mexico’s borders have already broken all-time records, with more than 200,000 caught in November alone.
