The image on the left uses a filter sensitive to Titan’s lower atmosphere. Bright spots are prominent clouds in the northern hemisphere. The image on the right is a color composite image. Several prominent features are marked on the surface: they are believed to be Kraken Mary It’s a sea of methane. The plate consists of dark sand dunes. Titan is the only moon in the solar system with a dense atmosphere. It is also the only planetary body besides Earth that currently has rivers, lakes, and seas.

Scientists have waited years to use Webb’s infrared vision to study Titan’s atmosphere, including its fascinating weather patterns and gaseous composition, and also to see through the haze to study the characteristics of the albedo (light and dark spots) on the surface.

More Titan data from NIRCam and NIRSpec are expected, as well as the first data from the medium infrared instrument (Merry) from Webb in May or June 2023. The MIRI data will reveal a larger portion of Titan’s spectrum, including some wavelengths not seen before.

also: They achieve, without breaking space and time, a simulation of a wormhole

This will give scientists information about the complex gases in Titan’s atmosphere, as well as important clues as to why Titan is the only moon in the solar system with a dense atmosphere.
