The Institute of Biomedical Sciences held the fifth edition of this academic event.

Ciudad Juarez, Cheh. (UACJ) – If the current trend continues, the Mexican health system will face an alarming panorama by the year 2050, so to avoid entering a crisis, strategies must be updated and their strategies considered mainly with a preventive approach, said Dr. Exchil Araceli Maya García, from the Autonomous University of Campeche. , who participated as a speaker at the V Oral Medicine and Pathology Symposium held May 8 at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez.

The symposium was organized by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences through the Department of Dentistry and specialization in Pathology and Oral Medicine.

Dr. Maya García presented the Oral Diseases of the Elderly Conference, and at the beginning of her presentation she said that Mexico has a large percentage of elderly people among its population and that a study makes alarming projections for the year 2050. For those years, the vast majority of the current economically active population will be over 60 years.

The doctor pointed out that the elderly are considered to be people over 60 years old, but it must be taken into account that the aging of people begins at the age of 30 years.

He pointed out that in underdeveloped countries such as Mexico, there are factors such as poverty and poor education that hinder health education and prevention.

In addition to Dr. Maya García, Dr. Victor Hugo Toral Rizo, from the Autonomous University of Mexico, and Dr. Carolina Elisabeth Manrique Pérez, from the Autonomous University of Yucatan, participated in the V.

Dr. Toral Rizzo delivered the conference on HPV lesions in children, and Dr. Manrique Perez, a psychologist, developed the topic of managing emotions.

At the opening ceremony, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Salvador Nava Martínez, said that the inclusion of affective topics in this Oral Pathology and Medicine Symposium reinforces the goal of the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez to offer integrated training to its students.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Dental Department, Sergio Soltero Herrera. Dental Surgeon Program Coordinator Selina Ceballos Saenz; Dental Specialty Coordinator, Luis Felipe Fornelli, and Dr. Juan Carlos Cuevas González, Pathology and Oral Medicine Specialty Coordinator.
