Bachelor of Medical Surgery from UADY Obtains International Accreditation – Yucatan Now

The Bachelor of Medical Surgery at the Autonomous University of Yucatan School of Medicine (UADY) was awarded an accreditation board of national and international validity by the Mexican Council for Accreditation of AC Medical Education (COMAEM), during a ceremony on October 28, 2022.

The ceremony, which took place in the unit’s auditorium, was presided over by the university authorities, Dr. José de Jesus Williams, President of UADY, Dr. Carlos José Castro Sansoris, Director of the College of Medicine, and Dr. Zeta Milva Triana Contreras, Executive Secretary of UADY

During the ceremony, Dr. Triana Contreras stated that since the establishment of COMAEM, like the UADY School of Medicine, the continuous search for educational quality in medicine has been a key pillar, which is why both institutions are always looking for
Continuous evaluation and external accreditation to ensure that the teaching offered is of the highest quality, comparable to the most prestigious universities in the world.

He noted that the international accreditation of the educational program means that it meets the standards recognized worldwide by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and that its graduates have international knowledge and practical skills.

Obtaining this accreditation will allow, from 2024, graduates of that
Bachelor’s degree, can apply for the Education Commission for Overseas Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, a certification that allows graduates to take a medical licensing exam in the United States and be able to reside or work in that country.
During his speech, the Director of the College of Medicine, Dr. Carlos José Castro Sansoris, praised the joint efforts of the academics, administrators and staff of the College.
Dependency, who have contributed to maintaining national accreditation since 1997, the year the medical school received its first national accreditation.

He particularly paid tribute to the staff, who dedicated themselves for several months to leading the international accreditation process, a privilege he first received for this degree.
At the end of the ceremony in the auditorium of the Benito Juárez García Bachelor of Medicine, the accreditation plate awarded by COMAEM and WFME was revealed.
