Road to the Oscars: How the movie awards season is going

On Sunday, March 12, the 95th Academy Awards will take place, and the 2023 film awards season will end to wait for the last months of the year so that everything can start over and we will know the upcoming nominees for the 2023 – 2024 season.

Before this Sunday arrives, I’ll tell you how movie awards season goes, on the hottest awards.

Golden Globe

The awards season began in early December last year, when the Accredited Foreign Press Association of the United States (HFPA, its abbreviation in English) announced the nominees for the ceremony, which was held on January 10, 2023, to reward the best cinema and television.

The 80th was broadcast again in the US by NBC and the Peacock streaming platform (only available in that country), and could not be seen in Latin America, where it was broadcast on TNT, until before the pandemic.

The winners that night in the category that invited us are: The Fabelmans (Best Dramatic Film), The Spirits of the Island (Best Comedy or Musical), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Best Animated Film), Argentina 1985 (Best Language Film Foreign), Austin Butler (Best Dramatic Actor for Elvis), Cate Blanchett (Best Dramatic Actress for TÁR), Colin Farrell (Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy). For “The Spirits of the Island”), Michelle Yeoh (Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time”), Steven Spielberg (Best Director for “Fablemans”), “Spirits of the Island” (Best screenplay), Ke Huy Quan (Best Supporting Actor for “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time”) and Angela Bassett (Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever).

Critics’ Choice Awards

On Sunday, January 15, the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards, awarded by the American and Canadian Critics Association for Best Film and Television, took place. The ceremony was broadcast to Latin America by TNT and HBO Max.

The film category winners are: “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time” (Best Film); Brendan Fraser (Best Actor, The Whale: La Ballena); Cate Blanchett (Best Actress for TÁR), Ke Huy Quan (Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere Simultaneously), Angela Bassett (Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Dan Quan, Daniel Scheinert (Best Director for ” Everything is everywhere at the same time”), “Everything is everywhere at the same time” (Best Original Screenplay), “Ellas Hablan” (Best Adapted Screenplay), “RRR” (Best Foreign Film) and “Glass Onion” : A Knives Out Mystery’ (Best Animated Comedy).

BAFTA Awards

On Sunday, February 19, 2023, the 76th BAFTA Awards were held in London, which are the awards presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for the best cinema of 2022.

The evening’s winners are: All Quiet Front, which took home seven BAFTA Awards in the categories: Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. “The Spirits of the Island,” which won four awards in the categories of Best British Film, Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon), Best Supporting Actor (Barry Keoghan), and Best Original Screenplay; Elvis won four awards, including Best Leading Actor for Austin Butler. Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for TÁR. Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” won in the category for Best Animated Feature and Aftersun for Best British Debut Independent Film.

SAG Awards

On Sunday night, February 26, the twenty-ninth edition of the SAG Awards was held, which are the awards presented by the Actors Guild for Best Film and Television in 2022, where the movie “Everything Everywhere at the Same Time” won in four categories: Best Supporting Role, Best Lead Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Best Supporting Actor (Ki Hui Kwan), while Brendan Fraser won Best Leading Actor for The Whale: The Whale.

Oscars 2023

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 12, and will be broadcast in Chile and Latin America by TNT and the HBOMax streaming platform.
