Of all the Amazon home technologies, the Fire TV range of devices is very compelling when compared to major competitors like Google TV and Roku. But is it enough to bring an entire Amazon TV into your home?
Amazon has announce Two more ways to bring Fire TV into your home: a third-generation Fire TV Cube and a second-generation QLED Omni TV with Fire TV built into its software. The company is also rolling out an update that will make the Show 15 devices more useful around the house, if you’re one of those who watches a lot of series and content, of course. There is a new voice control device from Alexa.
Let’s start with the Amazon line Fire TV Omni QLED. It comes in a 65-inch size for $800 or a 75-inch size for $1,100. It’s the successor to last year’s Fire TV Omni, although it offers higher pixel density and a wider color gamut because it uses Quantum Dot technology. The TV has additional areas to control contrast, presence sensors, and ambient lighting that will identify the environment in your room for the best TV viewing using Dolby Vision IQ and adaptive HDR10+ technologies. He’ll be able to adapt to the lighting… and he’ll also know when you’re in front of him, which is what Amazon sets apart.
Fire TV Omni QLED delivers content at a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 frames per second (fps). When you’re not watching, the TV doubles as an HD picture frame with Fire TV Ambient Experience. Or you can use Alexa gadgets, just like the various Echo Show devices.
This is the most unique offering in Amazon’s current TV lineup. You can still choose between last year’s Fire TV Omni series for $330 or the Fire TV 4 series for $300. All three TVs offer 4K Ultra HD (UHD), but only Omni QLED delivers the Fire TV Ambient Experience and adaptive brightness.
