Trea Turner and Paul Goldschmidt combined to drive in eight innings as the United States beat Cuba, 14-2, in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic Sunday night.

Turner went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs, while Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBIs.
The United States advanced to challenge for the title on Tuesday night, playing the winner of Monday’s match between Mexico and Japan.

American third baseman Nolan Arenado was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, but an X-ray of his right hand came back negative due to a bone injury.

American starter Adam Wainwright allowed only one run in four innings. He survived a bad start in which he allowed the first four Cuban fighters to reach the base.

Cuba got off to a great start Sunday with three straight hits and an RBI walk on Alfredo Despaigne. But Wainwright saved the next three batters. The key play was a penalty kick for Arenado, who got power at the plate for the first time of the inning.

The USA took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first half on Mookie Betts’ double and a 400-yard Goldschmidt home run to left end.
